Early Head Start located in Barren, Logan, Metcalfe and Warren Counties serves infants and toddlers under the age of 3. Early Head Start provides comprehensive child development and family support services.

Early Head Start is a center-based program similar to the preschool Head Start program, but it is tailored to meet the individual needs of infants and toddlers. Early Head Start promotes physical, cognitive, social and emotional development through a safe developmentally appropriate environment and loving caregivers. These skills are provide the foundation for continued growth and leads to school success.

The program assist families in meeting their personal needs and strengthens their role of parents as the first and primary teacher.

You may apply for services if…

  • Your child is at least 6 weeks old to 3 years of age.

  • The child's family income must be at or below the 100% federal poverty guidelines.


Before a child is enrolled, please provide the following information:

  1. Verification of income

  2. Verification of the child's birth

  3. Up-to-date immunization certificate.

**10% of the funded slots are reserved for children with disabilities.
